Shea Moisture

sm01Thank goodness I can say “been there, done that” to the product junkie life. Over the last five years of so, with the surge of products for natural women hitting the shelves, if you name it, I’ve probably tried it. After filtering out quite a few product lines that do not work for me, I’ll start focusing on what does work for my hair.

Let’s start with the Shea Moisture line. I started using Shea Moisture products a while back, but would always find some other product by some other brand that was recommended by someone else or I was simply enticed by a pretty bottle with all the right lingo. Bottom line, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.

I returned to Shea Moisture loving it just as much now as I did then, especially since it’s one of the few product lines that have only natural and/or certified organic ingredients. This lovely line of products has a history dating back to Sierra Leone – 1912, which is only the icing on the cake. Check out my favorite SheaMoisture products below!

L001SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie is thick, conditioning, and creamy but lightweight and perfect for a wash-n-go or a twist out. I use this smoothie as a part of my L-O-C method and my hair is left feeling baby soft, full of moisture, silky, and delicious-smelling, too! If you are not familiar with the L-O-C method, it basically means that after shampooing and conditioning your hair, you use a Leave-In Conditioner first (spray leave-in cond.), then an Oil (argan), then a thick styling Cream or gel (smoothie). My curls are smooth and defined with less frizz. There’s Coconut Oil in the blend which seals in hydration and protects my color-processed hair while reducing breakage. $12.99

SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Body Wash cleanses, moisturizes and naturally brightens the mind, body, and spirit. It has a beautiful smell, and helps nourish and firm the skin with Vitamins E and K, iron and fatty acids. Grab a pretty loofah and get taken away by the essence of the Hibiscus Flower. $9.99

sm002SheaMoisture’s Shea Butter Ultra-Rich Moisturizing Body Lotion has a blend of Shea Butter, Aloe Vera, Jojoba and Avocado Oils that my skin loves. It definitely lives up to the ultra-rich description. Talking about loving the skin you’re in, this tasty-smelling lotion gives my skin a noticeably soft sheen and feel, whether it’s day or night. Everyone wants soft skin, and this is a sure way to go. $10.99

If you already use, or plan to try SheaMoisture, let me know what you think!

  1. I’ve absolutely been loving their coconut weightless range, it’s so nice for my 3a/3b hair and gives it just the right amount of moisture. My mum uses the same as you and it just leaves both of your hair so nice!!! I honestly wish I could have your hair instead of mine because it just looks so good all the time!! xx

    1. Thank you, Natasha! I’ve definitely been through the ringer trying to find what my hair loves. Tell you mum we’re on the same frequency. It sounds like SheaMoisture is treating you well, also!

      1. I will be sure to do that 🙂 one thing that does help for me is overnight drying, I like to plait my hair into a few sections or 2 French braids if I’m going out and when I undo it there is little to no frizz 🙂 my mum usually likes to twist hers, you could always try that if plaits aren’t your thing xx

      2. Omg 😂 i find that it’s easier if you don’t look at what you are doing in the mirror and follow a guide as you do it. I kind of just learnt it from my dad doing it on my hair. I wish my mum could do mine, I’m the one doing her plaits instead haha my mum likes the 2 strand twists so I think those would work really nicely on you xx
