I flew back to my beloved Los Angeles to visit my friend Shasta for a week. It’s been some years since I moved away and I’ve gone through withdrawals. This place creeps into my dreams, and it felt great to reconnect with the city of angels, friends, and family. I was beyond stoked to return.
When I landed, we went straight to the food! It’s so easy for me to enjoy eating out in L.A. because I don’t have to sacrifice my healthy lifestyle. It if isn’t organic, I don’t want it! What I did want is to check out Urth Caffe in Santa Monica. It was wonderfully good!
After we ate, we walked to the beach and I twirled in the wind while Shas did cartwheels in the sand. The beach is my happy place so it was necessary on day 1. After playtime, we went to Venice Beach to hang out a few more hours before heading to Beverly Hills for sushi at the place me and my best friend used to frequent at least once a week. The food was still as good as it was four years ago.
The next day included a trip to my old street in Hollywood. I lived in a house that was converted to two apartments. My apartment came with a sun room, drive-way, laundry room, and most importantly, a great view of Universal City from the front porch. Those were the good ol’ days.
Shasta and I met up with our college friend George at the Saddle Ranch on Sunset. It was a really fun reunion! We made s’mores and clowned around until the sun went down. We watched Shas ride the mechanical bull and cheered the entire time.
We took it easy this day, and enjoyed lunch at Bluebird in Santa Monica. That was some of the best ahi tuna I’ve had in a while.
This was my favorite day of them all. It was my mission to hit up the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market to stock up on my Roots Brothers body wash/shampoo and lotion. My friend Yuta got me Body Right as a going away gift before I left L.A. and I’ve been obsessed ever since. The fragrance is earthy and hypnotizing, and I promise I don’t want to use anything else on my body! It’s delightful and the scent of Red triggers something beautiful and fiery in my soul. I love this stuff! Shas bought some too, and I also got her first wheat grass shot. She wasn’t ready for that. Ha! After the Farmer’s Market, we drove up to Malibu for brunch on the beach at Malibu Farm. We enjoyed strawberry-grapefruit sangria, delicious food, and the soothing sound of the ocean’s waves.
After brunch, we went to Zuma Beach, also in Malibu. We did a small hike, in sandals, up Point Dume and it was incredible. I was singing all the creator’s praises.
After the hike, I took some time to reconnect to the nurturing, divine energies to embody a state of peace and balance within my feminine power. I was fully engaged in the moment. Life is a gift and should be treated as such.
The late morning started with a bit of thrifting then brunch in Marina Del Rey.
I spent the day with my friend Angela, who I’ve known since my sophomore year in undergrad. We had a photo shoot, cruised around LA, ate dinner, and shared laughs. We also had cocktails at my friend Tahir Moore’s birthday comedy show at the Comedy Union. Then my friend from undergrad Angela and I sat and ate at Kitchen 24 in West Hollywood and talked for over 3 hours. I’ve missed her so much.
Adios Los Angeles! I had a blast eating all of your tasty food, spending quality time with loved ones, and re-balancing in my happy place. Until next time…
